Flag City Honor Flight (FCHF) is set to launch its 2025 season with a significant milestone—the organization’s first flight with a new airline. Scheduled for April 1, the inaugural mission will depart from the main terminal at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport, marking a major improvement in the travel experience for Veterans and their guardians. The move is expected to reduce travel time and eliminate the need for additional bus transport from the airport to the memorials in Washington, D.C.
Enhanced Experience for Veterans and Guardians
This new partnership with an airline will make the process smoother for Veterans, ensuring that they spend more time at the memorials and less time on travel logistics. The mission will begin with a flight from Toledo Express Airport, providing a direct and efficient connection to the war memorials in Washington, D.C., where Veterans can pay tribute to their service and sacrifice.
The organization’s traditional Welcome Home celebration will take place at the Grand Air Hangar, located at 11777 W. Airport Service Rd, Swanton, OH 43558. The public is invited to join the Welcome Home gathering, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. for an emotional and heartfelt celebration of the Veterans’ return from their trip.
Upcoming Flights for 2025
In addition to the April 1 flight, Flag City Honor Flight has scheduled additional flights for 2025 on June 3, September 9, and October 14. Veterans eligible for these flights include those who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Terminally ill Veterans receive priority, followed by others based on the order in which their applications were received.
Volunteers and Donations Vital to Mission Success
As a 100% volunteer-led nonprofit organization, Flag City Honor Flight relies on the generosity of donors and community support to make these flights possible. The organization actively seeks corporate and individual sponsors to cover the costs of airfare, meals, transportation, and materials for each honored Veteran. Contributions of any size are vital to ensuring that more Veterans are able to experience this powerful and emotional day of remembrance and gratitude.
Community members are also encouraged to participate by donating, volunteering at the Welcome Home celebrations, or organizing third-party fundraisers. These efforts help ensure that the mission continues to thrive and serve more Veterans from Northwest Ohio and surrounding areas.
