IATA has opened nominations for the 2026 D&I (Diversity and Inclusion) Awards. IATA D&I Awards are designed to honor people and organizations that have worked to support the values of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) within the Aviation Industry. Each year, IATA holds its D&I Awards to recognize stiff competition within the Industry to make the world of Aviation a better, safer, and fairer place to work. The 2026 Award Winners will be recognized at IATA’s 82nd Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit (WATS) taking place from 6–8 June 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The D&I Awards, supported by IATA and global airline partners, have become an important platform for recognizing efforts to make the aviation industry a more inclusive workplace. The awards program reflects IATA’s broader mission to foster a more diverse aviation workforce and leadership structure as part of its 25by2025 initiative. This initiative seeks to increase female representation across aviation roles and leadership positions by 2025.

The 2026 Diversity & Inclusion Awards will include three key categories for nominations:

Each award comes with a USD 25,000 prize, which can either be accepted personally by the winner or donated to a charity of their choice. The prizes are generously funded by Qatar Airways, a key partner in the initiative.

Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, emphasized the importance of the D&I Awards, stating that a diverse and inclusive aviation sector is essential to attracting the talent needed to support industry growth. He also pointed out that increasing diversity within the workforce ensures aviation remains a rewarding career choice for all. Walsh’s comments highlight the connection between diversity and the aviation industry’s ability to remain competitive, innovative, and resilient as it continues to recover and grow.

IATA encourages professionals, organizations, and airline members from across the globe to submit nominations for the awards. The nominations require a written statement and a short video explaining why the nominee should be recognized for their contributions to diversity and inclusion in aviation. The deadline for submissions will be announced soon on IATA’s official website.

An independent judging panel, chaired by Karen Walker, Editor-in-Chief of Air Transport World, will evaluate the nominees. The panel will include past winners of the awards, ensuring that the selection process reflects a peer-led approach to recognizing the most impactful contributions to the aviation sector.

The D&I Awards form a key part of IATA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which aligns with global efforts to make the aviation sector more inclusive. By honoring individuals and teams making a difference in this space, IATA hopes to inspire others in the industry to take similar steps toward fostering inclusive work environments. As the aviation industry remains a cornerstone of global connectivity, the need for inclusivity is critical in maintaining its success and growth.

These efforts contribute to the broader goals of improving global connectivity, tourism, trade, and employment, highlighting the role that diversity plays in strengthening the sector. It is clear that a diverse workforce brings multiple perspectives and ideas, enriching the decision-making processes and operational success of airlines, airports, and other aviation entities.

The winners of the 2026 Diversity & Inclusion Awards will be revealed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the highly anticipated IATA Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit. This prestigious event will provide the perfect platform for celebrating the outstanding achievements of individuals and teams who have made meaningful strides toward achieving a more inclusive and diverse aviation industry.

The opening of nominations for the 2026 Diversity & Inclusion Awards marks a significant step toward recognizing the contributions of those driving equity in aviation. With the industry’s continued recovery, it is essential that leaders and organizations who are paving the way for a more inclusive sector are celebrated. As the global aviation community heads toward Rio de Janeiro for the IATA’s 82nd AGM, the awards will serve as a reminder of the vital role diversity and inclusion play in shaping the future of the aviation industry.
